LOL! And THANK YOU for this question. I'll answer it as best as I can... from the angle of an American!
I was born and raised in America, and, no doubt, have plenty of blind spots that are uniquely American.
I travel a fair amount outside the US though not as extensively as many others.
I've been to Canada, Mexico, the Soviet Union, Finland, Ireland, Great Britain, Denmark, Greece, Italy, Israel, Cyprus, Switzerland, France, New Zealand, and Australia.
I have laughed every time I have heard this joke:
Q: What are you if you are fluent in 3 languages? A: Trilingual.
Q: What are you if you are fluent in 2 languages? A: Bilingual. Q:
What are you if you are fluent in one language? A: American
That is true of me, to be sure.
Most of the clients in our programs are from America. Also, we have, or have had, clients from these countries: Canada, Mexico, Australia, Great Britain, Ireland, and The Netherlands.
There are many things about America that I have pride in (personal ambition, friendliness, openness to experience, education, technology, music, etc.). There are plenty of things to be concerned about, ...such as
- we are only 5% of the world's population and we use 40% of the world's resources
- the rise in authoritarianism in our government
- racism
- a gun lobby and politicians who put profits & power ahead of children
- a healthcare system that doesn't work well for many people
My personal view, values, and politics are that human beings have more in common than politicians and those who profit from division would want us to believe.
So here in StoryFormula, the focus is on what content and methods are necessary for a typical human being to create a life that fits their own dreams and the dreams of those they love... ...regardless of where they were born. I'm not sure what kind of cultural bias there is in that... perhaps this year I will learn.
